Comprehensive Family Law & Estate Services Tailored to You

Absolute Divorce

A contested or uncontested divorce is more than paperwork. It can redefine your finances, living situation, and children’s future. We’ll help you pursue a fair settlement — or litigate if needed.

The three most stressful times in life are moving, a death in your family, and a divorce. The divorce itself can seem deceptively simple. However, it is still a legal proceeding with real life ramifications. Our firm handles simple Absolute Divorce for a low flat fee.

Child Custody & Visitation

We fight to protect your parental rights and promote stable environments for your children. Whether you’re establishing custody or battling modifications, we stand with you.

At J. B. McCrea Law we understand that custody can be the most difficult part of ending a marriage with minor children. “What is primary custody?” “What do I need to file to make sure I can see my children?” “Where do we pick-up and drop-off the children?” We can answer these questions and many more. From the initial filing through permanent custody order, our firm can walk you through every step. If you already have a custody agreement and need to make changes, we can help with that as well.

Post Separation Support & Alimony

Post Separation and alimony affect your financial life. We calculate what’s fair, negotiate, and enforce as needed so your obligations or entitlements are clearly defined.

Equitable Distribution

Dividing assets can be contentious. We’ll advocate for a fair split, ensuring your contributions and future interests are respected under NC law.

During a marriage it is inevitable that couples share things. Time, moments, and possessions. Some possessions can be replaced, but what about bank accounts, pensions, and the marital home? We can help navigate the often lengthy and frustrating process of dividing the assets and liabilities of the marriage. In North Carolina, while there is a presumption that a 50-50 division of assets is equitable, under certain circumstances, we can show a court why you deserve more than 50% of the marital assets.

Separation Agreements

In North Carolina separation is not a legal status, it is a factual situation when spouses begin living in separate residences.  Once the couple has separated, they must wait one year for an Absolute Divorce. However, J. B. McCrea Law can help you to create a Separation And Property Settlement (SAPS) for you and your spouse to resolve issues of dissolving the marriage well before one year has elapsed. A SAPS can help to avoid the lengthy process of Equitable Distribution litigation and quickly establish the financial and custody arrangements in the dissolution of marriage.

Adoption & Parental Rights

Whether you’re adopting, contesting a termination, or seeking parental rights, we’ll guide you through the process — with compassion and legal precision.

Adding to your family isn’t always about gender reveals and baby showers. Here at J.B. McCrea Law, our family can help your family through the process of Adoption. Whether you are a step-parent adopting your spouse’s child, adopting the child of a family member or adopting a child from foster care, we have experience with the procedures and statutes to make it a smooth process for you and your family.
